Big-time changes sweep into the Carolinas as we move into the second week of April. A sluggish, moisture-laden system will slog its way into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area this Sunday evening, bringing widespread rain from the High Country into the Sandhills. A few heavy storms could bring gusty
winds and small hail, but the overall severe threat remains low Sunday night. There may be a few dry periods early Monday morning, but blanketing rain returns by sunrise; prepare for significant delays during your AM commute. Rain will slowly begin to clear west-to-east in the afternoon, but there’s a strong chance scattered showers cover most of the Piedmont and Foothills through the evening. Much cooler and drier air filter into the Carolinas by midnight into Tuesday morning.
The second day of the workweek gets off to a chilly start – lows will bottom out in the 20s, 30s, and 40s across the board as a few snow flurries make their way into the High Country. Highs will struggle to clear 60º around the Metro Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon; scattered frost and even some patchy freeze will find its way into the Piedmont and Foothills Tuesday night. Temperatures recover near 70º by the end of the week, but we’ll also have to watch for more rain chances within this timeframe. Next weekend looks mainly dry and comfortable with highs in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
