DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A young girl from Depew is proving that age is just a number when it comes to making a difference. Her love for animals sparked an idea -- a pet pantry to help families in need keep their furry friends cared for and fed.
Beverly Gambino is just 8 years old. She said a big pa
rt of the inspiration behind her pet pantry was her family.
"My nana does Depew's Little Pantry," Gambino said. "I was thinking maybe I can do my own pet pantry to be like her."
Another big reason why she came up with the idea was because of her deep love for animals. She owns two dogs, two cats, a fish and a hamster.
The pantry has everything you might need if you're taking care of a pet, from dog kibble to pet harnesses -- and, of course, toys.
Everything inside is collected from the community or purchased on her own. Then, it's put out for display for anyone who may need something.
"I'm just happy people are helping me so we can take care of all the animals," Gambino said. "They deserve food, and no dogs or cats should go hungry."
Now, Gambino is asking for the community's help to keep the shelves full. She's hosting a fundraiser to raise money for her pantry -- with all funds being used to purchase more supplies.
"There's going to be three winners on April 10. It's only $5 to enter and we have three dog and cat prizes for the three winners," Gambino said. "I'm happy that they're giving me donations so I can fill my own pet pantry."
Beverly's Pet Pantry is located at 568 Rowley Rd. in Depew. It is open all hours of the day.
If you'd like to make a donation or enter the fundraiser, you can do so here.
