Apr 06, 2025
Madison Village will be adding a new swingset to the Dana’s Park playground.
Village Council, during a recent meeting, approved a $3,109 purchase order for the installation of a swingset at the park. Dana’s Park is located behind Village Hall at 33 E. Main St.
A company called Playground Boss wi
ll supply and install the new swingset.
The old unit was taken out last year to make way for a new section of the playground that’s intended to improve all-inclusive accessibility for children.
After the new portion of the playground was created, Village Hall staff began getting calls from parents who said their children missed having swings at Dana’s Park, said Acting Village Administrator Jason Chapman.
“In talking with Mayor Sam Britton, he said, ‘Let’s put some money aside for putting a swingset back up there,’ ” Chapman said.
The new unit will be equipped with two traditional swings.
In summer 2024, Madison Village completed a project to make Dana’s Park and its playground more user-friendly, and improve all-inclusive accessibility at the site.
A contractor hired by the village constructed a path accessible to people with disabilities that goes from the parking lot to the basketball court, to the playground and then to the picnic pavilion on the other side of a creek.
The village also authorized a separate contractor to install new, all-inclusive playground equipment and a specialized play surface that’s both softer and safer.
Funding for the Dana’s Park project consisted of $50,000 from the village’s own budget; a $50,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources; and a $15,000 Community Development Block Grant.
Dana’s Park is named after Dana Dominick, a Madison Township man who was killed in a vehicle crash on Route 2 in 1989. His parents, Jim and Betty Dominick of Madison Township, purchased the original playground equipment for the park in the early 1990s in honor of their son. ...read more read less
