Two new chain restaurants recently opened in the Painesville area. Jimmy John’s moved into the 201 Richmond St. site in Painesville City, while Popeyes opened the doors at its recently constructed 2168 Mentor Ave. building in Painesville Township. The Painesville Jimmy John’s is open for in-stor e ordering, pickup, curbside pickup and delivery every day of the week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., its website said. Its menu includes sandwiches and wraps with different meat, vegetable and bread options. Its new Painesville restaurant is located at the site of a former Georgio’s Pizza, and it is at the right end of a plaza that also includes stores and a BP gas station. Other local Jimmy John’s restaurants can be found in Mentor and Mayfield Heights, but those locations were listed with different hours. Jimmy John’s began in Illinois in 1983 and now counts more than 3,000 franchise locations, the website said. Painesville City is expecting to welcome more restaurants in the near future, as work continues on a Wingstop at 70 Richmond St. and a Crowley’s Dive Bar at 77 S. St. Clair St. “A priority for the Economic Development Department has been to attract more restaurants to Painesville, and we are starting to see the results of our efforts,” said Painesville Economic Director Susan Crotty. “We are excited that there will be more options for diners in the city, and we think you’ll see this trend continue.  We are happy that Jimmy John’s has chosen to locate here and be a part of the commercial growth of Painesville.” The planned Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 2168 Mentor Ave., Painesville Township, is pictured on Nov. 19. (Bryson Durst — The News-Herald) Meanwhile, Painesville Township officials announced that Lake County’s second Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen opened on April 2. The new Popeyes is located at the corner of Mentor Avenue and Waterford Lane, east of the nearby Target store. Plans approved by the township’s zoning commission in 2023 include both a drive-through lane and indoor space. Popeyes’ website says that the chain offers New Orleans-style fried chicken, shrimp and more. The first Popeyes opened in Louisiana in 1972 and it has since grown to more than 2,700 restaurants, including sites in Mentor and Euclid.
