Royals' top prospect wastes little time hitting first AA homer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- While the Kansas City Royals may have taken a beating from the Baltimore Orioles today to even the series, there's good news out of Northwest Arkansas from the club's top prospect.
The Naturals' 1B Jac Caglianone debuted in AA ball yesterday and had a decent showing. He took f
ive at-bats that turned into three runs, scoring one himself and batting in the other two.
Royals AAA affiliate outfielder hits for the cycle in 12-6 win
However, in the first inning of the Naturals' second game of the year, which was against the Los Angeles Dodgers AA affiliate Tulsa Drillers, Caglianone took one deep to right field. He hit the ball so hard it didn't stay in the park for long and ended up on the Tulsa streets behind the outfield.
Caglianone's first AA homer is one of the longest from a lefty in the history of the Drillers' field; it went 464 feet after the ball was clocked at 116 miles per hour off Cags' bat.
Many fans of the Royals, and all of MLB for that matter, have had their eyes on Caglianone ever since he was drafted. That being said, the 6'5", 250+ pound 22-year-old received a lot more attention after a sizzling Spring Training performance.
Down in Arizona, Caglianone hit three towering home runs and six other hits in just 18 at-bats. He certainly did everything he could to make his case for a Kauffman callup in 2025 in Spring Training, with a staggering batting average of .500, a slugging percentage of 1.167 and a reduced chase rate at the dish.
With Vinnie Pasquantino holding down the Royals' first base position nearly every day, speculation has surrounded Caglianone's ability to play the outfield. That's not just because of Vinnie, either, as the Royals outfield has proved through just eight games that they're likely going to be one of the worst in baseball yet again.
‘This is our year’: Fans hopeful for another KC Royals run
While Caglianone was drafted as a two-way player, meaning he pitched and hit at the University of Florida, it's looking more and more like the Royals will look to get him some reps in the outfield.
In fact, several prospect evaluators and insiders have already predicted that Caglianone will be called up to Kansas City for an MLB debut in 2025, maybe even before the summer is over.
If all goes to plan, Cags could end up being just what the doctor ordered for Kansas City baseball fans, who've already seen their fair share of sputtering offense in 2025. ...read more read less
