Mooresville man dies while clearing debris from private pond

MOORESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A Mooresville man died Saturday while clearing debris from a private pond.
At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Firefighters with the Mooresville Fire Department and the Brown Township Fire Department were dispatched to the 11700 block of North Lambert Court on a report of a wa
ter rescue. After arriving to the scene, an eyewitness told firefighters that a man was clearing debris from a private pond. After the debris was cleared, a whirlpool formed in the pond and the man was sucked underneath.
Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) firefighters, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department deputies, and Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers were called to the scene to assist. Mooresville rescue crews and IFD dive teams attempted to rescue the man from the whirlpool, but they were unable to for safety reasons.
Crews unsuccessfully attempted to rescue the man for about an hour before stopping. He was pronounced dead.
Investigators did not immediately provide the identity of the man. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana DNR are investigating the scene.
