Heavy rainfall, flooding across central Indiana – 4/5/2025
COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Flooding has closed dozens of Bartholomew County roads, with high waters threatening additional streets and parks.
Bartholomew County Emergency Management issued an update just after 2 p.m. Saturday, list
ing 32 roads closed by flooding and nine others seeing high water. Mill Race and Noblitt Park are also impacted.
There is a flood warning in effect for the East Fork White River in Columbus. It’s expected to crest at 16.7 feet Sunday morning, approaching the flood record.
Bartholomew County Emergency Management says 17 feet is the approximate height of the “100-year flood.” If the river reaches that mark, officials expect evacuations at homes north of State Road 46 and flooding to affect businesses along State Road 46.
East Fork White River is expected to fall below flood stage late Tuesday.
There are also flood warnings in effect for Flatrock River near Columbus and Driftwood River near Edinburgh. Officials want to remind drivers to avoid traveling through flooded roads, saying most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
