UNC student carjacked at gunpoint in downtown Chapel Hill, officials say

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Police are currently investigating an armed carjacking that took place early Saturday morning at the heart of downtown Chapel Hill.
According to a news release, officers said they were called around 12:45 a.m. to the 100 block of West Franklin Street.
When they arr
ived, officers found the owner of the vehicle, a UNC student, and were able to determine that the person was robbed at gunpoint of their vehicle at the Carolina Square Parking Deck.
The student was not injured, but the suspect fled the scene with the vehicle.
Officers said the stolen vehicle was a gray 2017 Mercedes CLA 250 with a North Carolina license plate tag of HEV-1901.
This remains an active investigation.
