(PALMER LAKE, Colo.) — "Integrity Matters," a non-profit community organization announced that recall petitions to remove three board trustees members in Palmer Lake have been approved by the Town Clerk on Thursday, March 27, citing a lack of transparency during discussions about the Buc-ee's anne
xation.
The recalls target trustees Shana Ball, Kevin Dreher, and Dennis Stern. Each petition requires 275 signatures per petition by May 23 to proceed with the recall.
Although the annexation request for the proposed Buc-ee's development near I-25 and County Line Road was withdrawn in March, Bucc'ees said that it was only a temporary withdrawal due to a technicality, and that it will resubmit the request.
The petitions allege constitutional violations, censorship, and harassment by Palmer Lake officials. The group's main concerns over the proposed Buc-ee's were water usage and traffic.
"Due to many failures in leadership, we feel that new leadership that will actually represent the actual true citizens of Palmer Lake, specifically, and Tri-Lakes, in general, is needed," said Daren Fike Volunteer, Integrity Matters.
FOX21 News reached out to the board of trustees named in the recalls and Shana Ball responded. She said, "Members of this group have made several accusations they are unable to provide actual evidence for."
Ball refuted accusations that the board lacked transparency, saying "Every meeting whether held in executive session for the purpose of legal advice or in public has been posted for the public with a date and time as required by state law." ...read more read less
