Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ex-husband has apologized for berating three Muslim women in Georgia days after a video of the incident went viral. “I came today just to meet with the young ladies that I was mean to and treated disrespectfully about their religion and about what they were doing,” Perry Greene said Friday at a press conference outside the women’s place of worship in Johns Creek, Ga. “I just wanted them to know that I humbly apologized to them because no one should be treated that way, and that’s not the right way for us to treat anybody.” Greene, who was married to the far-right politician for nearly 30 years, was caught on camera harassing the three women in a mall parking lot in Alpharetta, just north of Atlanta. The incident happened at the Avalon, described by local media as an upscale dining and retail center, on March 31. According to the three women, they were praying at the empty parking lot when a man driving a Tesla Cybertruck interrupted them and demanded to know what country they were from. The man, later identified as Greene, went on to tell them they were “worshipping a false god” and instructed them to “go back to [their] country.” The women, who were born in the United States, told CNN they had gone to the mall to “grab a sweet treat” and celebrate Eid and mark the end of Ramadan, Muslims’ annual month of fasting. Alpharetta authorities were notified of the incident but later determined no crime had been committed. “The comments made in the video circulating on the internet are disgusting and do not reflect the diversity and understanding that Alpharetta values,” police said in a statement, local television station WSB reported. “However, in our community all speech is protected — even the speech we may not agree with. After thoroughly watching the video, we have determined no crime was committed.
