Mayfield Village Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting an Easter egg hunt, but for the second year in a row, the scramble for plastic eggs filled with sweet treats, will be for people 18 and older.
On April 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. around the outside of the Mayfield Village Community Room, 662
1 Wilson Mills Road, adults can try their hand at finding Easter eggs for a $5 fee.
Mayfield Village Parks and Recreation Director Shane McAvinew said that he wanted to bring the event back so that adults could have an excuse to bring some child-like wonder into their lives.
“The funny thing is, as adults we grow up, but we don’t get to dress up except for Halloween,” McAvinew said. “And with Easter we don’t get to go chase down eggs, so these eggs are filled with candy and everything else and we are going to hide them throughout the lawn of the gazebo area.”
He said that they won’t be changing much of what is normally expected with an egg hunt. The main divergence being a supply of soft drinks, salad and pizza for participants.
Last year, McAvinew said they had about a dozen people attended, with at least that many already signed up for this year’s event.
“The difference is, afterwards we will have refreshment included within this event,” McAvinew said. “But we are basically taking a kids activity and doing it as adults.”
McAvinew said that he saw a shift in people who can come to city events, as many older adults are not retirees but working adults who still have daytime commitments. He said being flexible in what programs they offer is important so they can give more people things to do.
“The reality of it is that a lot of older adults are not retirees, they are still working,” McAvinew said. “We have just expanded what we do, to not just cards and things like that… but we’ve expanded it to some activities in the evening.
“We’ve had our trivia program that we do about once a month and the adult Easter egg is part of that evening series that we do.”
