ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The University of Rochester Medical Center hosted a surgical skills workshop at the Saunders Orthopaedics & Physical Performance Center in Rochester for boys who attend Vertus High School. The workshops included surgeon-led instruction and practice setting fractures, i mplanting stabilization rods in bones, splinting, casting, and more. Some of the instructors are from underrepresented minorities who understand the value of this kind of mentoring. The workshop encouraged high school students to think a few years ahead about a rewarding career in medicine by giving the students hands-on practice to expand their interest.
