Man wounded in selfdefense shooting at Wichita hotel

WICHITA, Kan. — A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot by his girlfriend in what police say was a case of self-defense during a domestic disturbance at a hotel on the northeast side of the city Friday night.

y to a report of a shooting in the 3700 block of N. Rock Rd. Upon arrival, officers found a 32-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to investigators, the incident began several hours earlier, around 6:30 p.m., when the man allegedly threatened his 33-year-old girlfriend with a knife and stole property from her. The woman suffered minor injuries during that confrontation, but police were not notified at the time.
Later that evening, police say the man returned to the hotel and once again threatened the woman and hotel management with a knife. In response, the woman shot the man once in what detectives determined to be self-defense.
The woman cooperated fully with police and was interviewed by detectives before being released.
Authorities said the man will be arrested and face charges upon his release from the hospital. The case remains under investigation.
