NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The persistent pattern from the past few days will finally come to an end later tonight and Sunday as a cold front moves into the area. Ahead of the front expect another warm and windy day Saturday with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s. Winds will once again be gusting in the 20s and 30s. After midnight the front will begin to approach from the west. Expect a line of storms to begin to move in early Saturday morning. This will get to the I-55 corridor first, and then move across the rest of the area. Right now we have a level 2 threat of severe weather across our area through 7 AM Sunday with a higher outlook to the west. As usual any isolated storms ahead of the main line would contain a higher tornado threat, with a strong wind gust potential along the line itself. An embedded tornado would still be possible. Overall it looks like the severe threat does get lower as the line moves across the area. This is not something where we expect a widespread outbreak, but you still need a way to get warnings and be woken up if one is issued for your area overnight. The front will be moving slowly and we will likely still be dealing with rain after sunrise on Sunday. Some rain will be locally heavy so isolated street flooding will be possible. Expect lingering showers through the day on Sunday. Cooler and drier weather will move in as we start the week.
