Camp Ho Mita Koda, which boasts to be the world’s oldest summer camp for kids living with Type 1 Diabetes, will be holding a Community Open House from noon to 4 p.m. on April 12.
This free, family-friendly event is an opportunity for community members to enjoy camp activities, explore Camp Ho Mita
Koda’s historic groups and learn about their mission to support kids living with Type 1 Diabetes, according to a news release. The camp is located at 14040 Auburn Road in Newbury Township.
This year’s open house will also be an opportunity to meet Kristine Frankenberry, Camp Ho Mita Koda’s new executive director.
Frankenberry has over 20 years of non-profit leadership experience, and she brings a deep passion for community engagement and a commitment to expanding the camp’s impact, the release stated.
Activities will be taking place all day at the open house. These include: kayaking; fishing, for those who bring their own poles and bait; archery; tomahawk throwing; arts and crafts; campfire and scavenger hunt; and walking tours of the camp. There will also be informational tables and giveaways and prizes.
As a thank you for attending, every visitor will be entered to win a half-day camp rental, the release stated. The winner will have the opportunity to host up to 50 guests for a weekday event, including access to lake activities, hiking trails, archery and basketball courts.
Additionally, families new to Camp Ho Mita Koda will have an exclusive chance to win a free week of camp for their child with Type 1 Diabetes. If already registered, winners will receive a program credit for a future camp experience, according to the release.
Food will be available for purchase from the local You Enjoy My Donuts and Twisted Dish food trucks.
