PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A rapidly spreading fire at a home on Dalton Avenue in Pittsfield was quickly put out late Friday night due to multiple concerned citizen reports and the hard work of the fire crews involved.
Pittsfield Fire Deputy Chief Neil Myers said that at approximately 10:39 p.m.
on Friday, the department received multiple reports from callers of heavy fire at the front of a home at 206 Dalton Avenue. No one knew at the time if there were any occupants within the building.

Crews arriving at the home observed that the front of the two-story house was fully engulfed in flames, spreading onto the front yard. The single occupant of the residence was reported to have safely evacuated. Pittsfield firefighters worked to put out the fire quickly as it began to spread to the front windows and up to the roof.
Pittsfield Fire said that crews began to run out of water, but a hydrant line was quickly provided and a backup hoseline was stretched to the building to help with primary searches throughout every floor. The fire was reportedly under control in 15 minutes.
Chief Myers said that the home suffered extensive damage to the front side and inside the first floor, and a large portion only sustained smoke damage. The firefighters' 30-second response time from the station to the home and diligent work of all on-duty crews prevented further damage to the residence.
No personnel were injured in the fire, and crews remained at the home for 90 minutes overhauling damaged areas and making sure all spots were put out. A report from Chief Myers at approximately 1:00 a.m. said that a cat was believed to have died in the fire, but an update provided at 6:16 a.m. said that it was found alive overnight by the fire watch crew in the area.
The resident of the home has been able to find alternate living arrangements in the aftermath of the fire. The eastbound lane of Dalton Avenue was closed for the duration of the incident.
The fire is currently being investigated by the Pittsfield Fire Investigation Unit.
