I am all for an efficient well-run government. I am concerned that what we are witnessing is the destruction of our government with no regard for the common good of our society. Much of what President Trump asks is those with the least make sacrifices (cuts to SNAP, possibly Medicaid and more). Why
not ask those with the most to make sacrifices? President Trump has had a chilling effect on the pillars of our community: our universities (wants them to identify campus demonstrators or lose funding); the sciences (threats to the CDC, NIH, and NSF); the media (“fake” news, threats and lawsuits to TV stations, and newspapers opting to restrict op-eds due to threats); the law (targeting firms that challenge Trump with threats, stripping security clearances and barring firms from federal buildings, threatening to not obey rulings by judges); the arts (fired Kennedy Center board members, made himself chairman as if he doesn’t already have enough to do). President Trump seeks to stifle criticism of himself and his administration. Now more than ever, we need to stop this destruction of our society and work on solutions for the common good. Ask those with the most to make sacrifices instead of expecting it from those with the least.Carol LibrizziPark CityThe post Common good appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
