COLUMBUS, Ind. - A residential fire in Columbus is now under investigation. Authorities believe it was likely caused by lightning.
The Columbus Fire Department was called to a home in the 4400 block of Princeton Park Drive just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
When crews arrived at the scene,
they saw smoke coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters made their way to a second-floor bedroom and located the main body of the fire in the attic space. The fire was quickly brought under control.
Crews were told by the homeowner that he and his family were asleep when they were awakened by a loud sound. A moment later, the husband and wife noticed smoke coming from an air conditioning vent on their bedroom ceiling. The parents and their six children quickly exited the home and called 911.
Crews say damage caused by flames was contained to the home's attic. The home also sustained water damage on both the first and second floors.
