MARION, Ark. -- An elderly Arkansas father was rescued from a flooded ditch by his son Thursday night. Jerry Webb says it was raining hard when he was coming home. When he was about to turn into his subdivision, the 81-year-old accidentally drove his car into a ditch. "Went in that flood, and that flood just took me right through those two tunnels. I could hear it hitting on my car, and I'm like what the hell is that," said Webb. 5 fatalies reported in McNairy County after severe storms Webb said that it happened in an instant after he accidentally ran his car off the road. He said he did not remember it, but he somehow managed to get his phone and call his son for help. Marion Police also responded to the scene. "If it didn't go the way it did, he was very lucky those minutes really counted for us to get there to retrieve him," said Major Dustin Burnett with the Marion Police Department. "Nobody knew where he was at, and I didn't see a car light, so I just jumped in the water and started diving down trying to find him because I thought he was in the water," said his son Jason Webb. His father managed to escape the car and was clinging to a tree. "As they were trying to get him back over, Major Laws or Corporal Fayhee and Sergeant Deshields actually ended up having to make a human chain from the bank out to the water to assist them and get him over to the land," said Jason Webb.
