Three people were brought to University Hospital in Columbia after a porch collapsed, according to a Friday night press release from Jefferson City.
Firefighters were called around 5:30 p.m. Friday for a report of a structure collapse in the 1400 block of St. Mary’s Boulevard, the release says. Firefighters saw a staircase and a porch from the second floor on the ground, the release says.
Four people were standing on the porch when it fell, the release says. All four people fell about 15 feet. All four people were treated at the scene. Two adults and a child were brought to University Hospital in Columbia, while the fourth -- a youth -- did not want to be brought to the hospital, the release says. All were described as “stable” in the release. Injuries were described as “moderate” by Cole County EMS Chief Eric Hoy.
“Due to the extended transport times and simultaneous emergency calls occurring throughout the county, Cole County EMS initiated a recall of off-duty personnel to staff additional ambulance,” the release says.
Hoy said that the cause of the collapse is not yet known.
The Jefferson City Planning and Protective services code enforcement responded, as well, to evaluate. It will be working with the property owner for a long-term investigation, Hoy said.
