HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Jose Salas, an Oʻahu man, was convicted for Continuous Sexual Assault of a Minor Under the Age of Fourteen, which is a Class A felony under Hawaiʻi law.
According to the Department of the Attorney General, the victim was a 9-year-old.

The conviction came on April 4, following a jury trial that lasted eight days in the Circuit Court of the First Circuit. The Oʻahu jury found Salas guilty of the Class A felony, as well as four counts of Sexual Assault in the Third Degree, which are Class C felonies.

"This conviction reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting Hawaiʻi's children and ensuring that survivors of sexual abuse receive the justice they deserve," said Attorney General Anne Lopez. "We are grateful for the tireless efforts of law enforcement, victim advocates and our legal team, whose collaboration made this outcome possible."
The crime was investigated by the Honolulu Police Department, who was aided by the Children's Justice Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center. The lead prosecutor of the case was Deputy Attorney General Loren Haugen of the Criminal Justice Division.

Salas is scheduled to be sentenced on July 10 and face a maximum sentence of 20 years with the possibility of parole. ...read more read less
