Americas was without its coaching staff for Friday's state semifinals match. Head coach Jair Olivares and assistant coaches Carlos Rosales and Daniel Murillo were suspended for Friday's game due to violating UIL rules, first reported by Felix Chavez of the El Paso Times.

Sources told KTSM earlier this week that Americas held a team practice on Sunday, March 30, which was the day before its regional final match against El Dorado. UIL rules prohibit teams from practicing on Sundays.
Olivares was suspended for the regional final match, a match where Americas beat El Dorado 3-0.
Olivares was expected to be back with the team for the state semifinals match but that was not the case come Friday. Sources told KTSM, Americas High School issued a suspension to Olivares and his assistant coaches for Friday's game.
That led to Americas girls soccer head coach Omar Torres filling in as head coach for Friday's match.
Despite not having its coaching staff, Americas got off to a strong start to the match. Jorell Castillo scored the first goal of the match to give the Trail Blazers a 1-0 lead with 23:51 left in the first half.
But Walnut Grove responded with four unanswered goals. Three of Walnut Grove's goals were scored by Mason Kutch.
Walnut Grove led 2-1 at halftime and then popped off for three more goals in the second half.
With the win on Friday, Walnut Grove improved to 24-0-2 on the season and advanced to the 5A DI state championship game that will be played in Georgetown, TX.
As for Americas, their stellar season came to an end in the final four stage of the playoffs. It was the first time in program history that they made it to the state semifinals. Americas finished its 2024-25 season with a 15-7-1 record. ...read more read less
