Newberry Co. arrest fugitive accused in series of burglaries

Newberry Co., SC (WOLO) — The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a fugitive who has been on the run for nearly two weeks. Officials say, 20-year-old Landon Major Howell is a suspect in a series of burglaries that took place along K
endall Road just outside of the City of Newberry.
Authorities say on the morning of March 23, 2025 Howell ran from store owners and deputies and went into hiding. Deputies believe Howell received help escaping capture and evading law enforcement. Sheriff Lee Foster says those who may have helped Howell will face charges as well. Howell was taken into custody by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, SLED, and Newberry County Sheriff’s Office in Laurens County April 4, 2025.
Deputies say Howell was out on bond for charges unrelated charges, but Sheriff Foster says he intends to ask the courts to have bond revoked.
Howell is currently being held at the Newberry County Detention and charged with two counts of Burglaries 2nd (violent), and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
