'Just shoot me': Man charged after chase, intimidation at Indy Airport
Apr 04, 2025
INDIANAPOLIS — A man faces 10 felony charges after he reportedly threatened an officer and civilian with a handgun, rammed his car into a police vehicle, fled from police and engaged in a standoff with officers at the Indianapolis International Airport.
According to court documents, 52-year-old
Craig L. Jones faces the following charges:
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony)
Unlawful Carrying of a handgun (Level 5 Felony)
Two counts of Intimidation (Level 5 Felonies)
Two counts of Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 Felonies)
Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony)
Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felony)
Two counts of Criminal Mischief (one being a Class A Misdemeanor, the other a Class B Misdemeanor)
On March 31, around 9:37 p.m., officers from the Indianapolis Airport Authority Police Department were called to Signature Aviation, located on the 6300 block of Turner Drive. Court documents stated that this location is known as a Fixed-Based Operator at the Indianapolis International Airport.
Court documents said that before police arrived, an employee at Signature Aviation noticed a male subject—later identified as Jones—driving a tan sedan with a loud exhaust near one of the airport gates adjacent to Signature Aviation.
That employee said they attempted to enter a fuel truck, but when doing so, Jones yelled the phrase "fire it up, it [an aircraft at Signature Aviation] has my name on it."
According to court documents, the employee ignored Jones's shouts, then watched as Jones continued doing donuts in nearby parking lots.
The court documents then add that another Signature Aviation employee spotted Jones screaming and ramming his vehicle against the gate. This gate leads to the airfield ramp, court documents said, where several private jets are parked.

Police from IAAPD showed up shortly thereafter. As one of the officers approached Jones, he reportedly pointed his firearm at the officer.
When Jones was advised to show his hands and drop the weapon, court documents indicate he instead got back inside his car, screamed profanities, revved his engine and drove to the area of Turner Drive and South High School Road in Indianapolis.
Per the documents, Jones then stopped his vehicle in the middle of an intersection but continued to rev his engine, spin his tires and wave his gun around. Police officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene and assisted IAAPD officers.
Jones reportedly continued to resist police officers and not adhere to their commands. According to court documents, he appeared to have difficulty driving due to his vehicle being damaged. He then asked the responding officers to "just shoot me."
This resulted in a standoff lasting several minutes. Court documents report that Jones would repeatedly get in and out of his vehicle, all while continuing to refuse IAAPD and IMPD's commands.
An IMPD officer fired "less-lethal beanbag projectiles at Jones as he was standing outside the vehicle," the docs indicate, but Jones still did not comply.
He then accelerated the car, hit a curb and drove recklessly to Signature Aviation's entrance. The documents stated that on-foot police had to evade Jones's path, who continued to spin his vehicle around and flee southbound on South High School Road.

IMPD and IAAPD gave chase to Jones after this occurred. Yet, due to significant damage to Jones's vehicle, court documents said his vehicle slowed down to 20 miles per hour, then eight miles per hour before stopping in the middle of the road in the 3000 block of South High School Road.
However, when police instructed Jones to exit his vehicle with his hands up, court documents stated he fled once again. IMPD requested SWAT deployment as he continued down South High School Road, reaching speeds up to 13 miles per hour.
Jones crossed over I-70, then stopped in the area of South High School Road and Hanna Avenue. The docs said he then reversed and intentionally rammed into an IMPD vehicle. This led to the officer sustaining a knee injury.
Jones kept driving. He fled eastbound on Hanna Avenue until IMPD deployed tire deflation devices near the intersection, according to court documents.
Though Jones attempted to flee police one last time, the docs state his car was facing heavy damage. It was reportedly leaking oil, had a small fire underneath it and all four tires had been disabled. Per the documents, Jones's vehicle had finally stopped at Hanna Avenue and Heiney Road.

Jones continued to open and close his car door and briefly got outside of the car at certain times. IMPD and IAAPD issued further commands and deployed more less-lethal devices. Again, though, court documents stated this was not successful in Jones's apprehension.
SWAT vehicles were positioned in front of and behind Jones's vehicle, but court documents said he continued to barricade himself inside. A roughly 52-minute standoff took place thereafter before Jones exited his vehicle once and for all.
He still was noncompliant with police, court documents said. This caused more less-lethal weapons to be deployed, and Jones was then placed in custody.
In an interview, Jones reportedly gave police multiple fake names, including "Julio," "Lawrence" and "Larry." Documents indicated that he appeared intoxicated and gave off a strong odor of alcohol, though Jones refused to take a chemical test.
On Thursday, police found that Jones was previously convicted of the following felony offenses:
Criminal Confinement (Class D Felony) on Dec. 4, 2014
Battery (Class D Felony) on Feb. 21, 2023
