INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A heightened flood threat will persist into this weekend with several more inches of rain ahead.
Moderate river flooding is anticipated in spots across central Indiana with flash flooding concerns. The worst o
f the flooding and areas of major river flooding is to be confined to southern Indiana. Flood watches remain in effect until Sunday morning.
Lets dive into the updated forecast below.
Friday night: Heavy rain will swing into the state tonight with rumbles of thunder. There will be a threat for overall flooding and flash flooding. The wild card with tonight’s rain is that a narrow band of heavy rainfall will set up somewhere near/along interstate 70 or further north closer to Lafayette-Kokomo and U.S. 24 that runs through Monticello-Logansport.
This band of rain may dump 2″-4″+ of rainfall with tonight’s action alone. Central Indiana overall will have up to 1″-2″ of rain.
There is also a low risk for severe weather with a higher Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) down towards southwestern Indiana. This threat is not as high as Wednesday night’s risk in central Indiana. Wind is the main concern, but all hazards are possible.
Temperatures will hover in the upper 50s to low 60s overnight.
Saturday: A brief drop-off in heavier rain is expected Saturday morning with some lighter showers around. By Saturday afternoon and night, the final round of moderate to heavy rain moves in. This looks to be focused mainly along and south of interstate 70. Be careful with travel and avoid flooded roadways.
Highs in the low to mid 60s.
Sunday: Showers will gradually taper off throughout Sunday. Oh, to add insult to injury, we could have some SNOWFLAKES mix in. Indiana weather is definitely cruel at times.
Additional Rainfall: We’re looking at an additional 2″-4″ of rainfall from the remainder of Friday to Sunday. Highest totals the rest of the way to be south and for the area highlighted where that narrow rain band Friday night sets up at.
Highs much cooler with numbers only in the mid to upper 40s.
7-Day Forecast: We’ll stay below normal through at least the first half of next week. A warmup settles in later next week.
