DENTON, N.C. (WGHP) -- A Denton church is going to have a full circle moment.
FOX8 was there when the Siloam Church completely burned down seven years ago. Now, it’s risen from its ashes, and on Saturday, they are holding a dedication ceremony for the new church.
Church members said that th
ey were able to save a few items from the fire, and now they’re being used in the new building, including the Bible that sat on the pulpit as the walls and roof came falling down.
“It is amazing to me to see how this burned on the outside, leaving the picture [of Jesus] and the word 'holy,'” said Cathy Jackson, the Siloam Church pianist.
They say that although the church looks different, the presence of the spirit remains the same.
“It’s a wonderful sign to know that God’s living word is untouched,” said Keith Jackson, Cathy’s son and a church member involved in the rebuilding process.
The cross also survived the fire.
“The symbol of that being pulled out that night ... made me feel like we knew we had an awesome God,” said Linda Markham, Cathy’s sister.
Pieces of the old church are incorporated into the new building in new forms that still echo their past.
Cathy took the burned wooden panels of the old church floor and shaped them into crosses that sit on top of the piano.
A grant helped rebuild the sanctuary.
The pulpit, pews, communion rails and the windows were all donated.
“From not knowing that it was going to be rebuilt to knowing that it was getting rebuilt, it’s exciting, and it makes me want to feel I want to do all that I can. I still feel like I haven’t done enough or as much, but it’s been a joy to know ... God’s letting me do that,” Cathy said.
As the new church opens its doors back to the people, Cathy can return to the place she missed the most, which is in front of the piano.
“You can feel the spirit here. That is not gone ... We have the same feeling. Even though it’s a new church, I think we still have that same feeling,” she said.
The dedication ceremony for the new church will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. The church will continue its 192 years of history serving the Denton community. ...read more read less
