Rockingham County Sheriff's Office expects charges soon in McMichael High School staff allegations

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) -- Two days ago, parents at McMichael High School in Rockingham County received a message that two staff members were suspended after allegations.
On Friday, FOX8 learned the staff members' names, but there is still no word from the school district or the sheriff’
s office on what this is about.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX8 that these are two separate cases that are not connected.
It’s unclear exactly how these allegations were uncovered, but the sheriff’s office said they were reported to the school board.
“It is just a lot,” said William Gainey, a father to two students at MHS.
Gainey and other parents try to process what’s going on.
“I know it is ... serious because they released the names,” Gainey said.
Gloria Holloway, a custodian and bus driver, has been dismissed from the school. Andrew Mercer, a JROTC instructor, has been suspended with pay. The Air Force JROTC said it is aware of the allegations and has suspended Mercer's certification to teach JROTC.
“Mr. Mercer. Everybody loves him ... My son really looked up to him, so he is ... floored. It is just a lot,” Gainey said.
His two students are still trying to process these allegations.
“They are doing OK. They are still shocked about everything ... It has really floored them .. It’s terrifying to me to send my kids to school,” Gainey said.
Neither the Rockingham County School District nor the RCSO have released information about what led up the investigations, but parents claim they heard that both cases involve students.
“I know that my kids know right from wrong, and they know that they can come and talk to me or my mother if anybody does anything that makes them feel uncomfortable,” Gainey said.
The rumors are spreading around town about what happened.
“I just have just tried to tell them that ... a lot of rumors are going to go around ... Sometimes, everybody is not who you expect them to be, so don’t get involved in the rumors and wait and find out what really happened before bashing somebody's name,” Gainey said.
Parents are impatient for answers and pray the staff members are held accountable for whatever allegations come out.
“When put in a position like that ... you are held to a higher expectation, and for this to happen around here ... is devastating,” Gainey said.
Friday marks two weeks since the school district learned of the allegations and removed the two staff members from the school.
