BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Buffalo man pleaded guilty to manslaughter and weapon charges Friday morning after he killed a man last summer and allegedly threw weapons off the Skyway, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.
Edward Harwell, 39, shot 21-year-old Kabah Kabah with an ille
gal gun multiple times on the 200 block of Bird Avenue. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. Kabah was pronounced deceased at ECMC.
The suspect vehicle traveled eastbound on Route 198, onto Route 33, into downtown Buffalo, and onto the Skyway. Objects that appeared to be handguns were seen being thrown from the window of the vehicle, officials said.
Harwell and two passengers were taken into custody near the Fuhrmann Boulevard exit. Officials said two loaded firearms were recovered from the flight path and linked to Harwell through DNA analysis.
Harwell pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He remains held without bail and faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 2.
Co-defendant Mekhi Harwell, 21, of Buffalo, is pending prosecution. He remains released on previously posted bail and is scheduled to return to court July 2.
An 18-year-old man from Buffalo pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was remanded to the Erie County Youth Services Center, as he was 17 at the time of the crime, and is expected to be sentenced July 2.
