AUSTIN (KXAN) — In honor of National Acai Day, April 6, some businesses are celebrating the popular bowl with special offers. Before we get to the list, lets go over some of the benefits of the organic berry from Brazil. Acai berries are often referred to as a superfood because it comes with a list of benefits - including rich in antioxidants. The National Kidney Foundation says the fruit may support hearth health and help prevent or delay cell damage. The fruit is also linked to decreased inflammation, and possibly reduce the symptoms of arthritis. And while the average açaí bowl is packed with antioxidants, vitamins and other benefits, nutritionists say it can become dense in calories when you factor in the added toppings that can be high in sugar.
