Deion Sanders expects Browns to draft Shedeur Sanders or Travis Hunter
Apr 04, 2025
Instead of dinner and a movie, the Browns’ two-day date with quarterback Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter was dinner and the “We Ain’t Hard 2 Find Showcase” staged April 4 at the University of Colorado.
Representatives from all 32 teams were present to watch 16 draf
t-eligible players from the team coached by Shedeur’s famous father, Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, go through drills. But mostly they were there to watch the younger Sanders and Hunter.
The Browns’ contingent might have been the largest.
Shedeur Sanders could be targeted with the second pick by the quarterback-needy Browns in the three-day draft that begins April 24. He told reporters covering the workout that he is ready for the pressure he knows will come no matter which team drafts him.
“There are cameras and eyes no matter where I go,” he said. “I know the influence I have. Wherever I go, it’s definitely going to be an improvement from when I got there.”
Deion Sanders doesn’t have to beat the bushes looking for recruits because everything he does is a recruiting mission. Everything he does is a spectacle — including the “We Ain’t Hard 2 Find Showcase” he staged less than three weeks before the draft, knowing NFL eyes and national coverage would be on his star players.
The Browns’ entourage, led by team owner Jimmy Haslam, included General Manager Andrew Berry, head coach Kevin Stefanski, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave, Executive Vice President JW Johnson plus assistant general managers Glenn Cook and Cat Hickman.
The Gang of Eight had a private dinner with Hunter and Shedeur Sanders on April 3 then watched as the younger Sanders threw choreographed passes to Hunter.
“They got me really full,” Shedeur Sanders said in his interview with reporters when asked about the dinner. “I definitely needed to go to the sauna after that. It was a good vibe.”
The Titans are expected to select Cam Ward with the first pick. That would leave Shedeur Sanders, Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter on the board when the Browns are on the clock with the second pick.
Neither Hunter nor Sanders participated in the physical testing or position drills in Boulder on April 4. The Browns do not plan a private workout for either of them, figuring they have seen enough of each live and on cutups (nobody uses tape in 2025) to evaluate them.
“It’s tremendous,” Deion Sanders told reporters. “They should be going 1-2 (in the draft). That’s the way I feel about it. They are the two best players in this draft. The surest bets in this draft are those two young men, and I didn’t stutter or stammer when I said that…I think one of those guys is going to be there (in Cleveland).”
Deion Sanders, now that he is retired as an athlete, is a coach first and a salesman a close second. Haslam met Deion before the Showcase on April 4 began. The coach said he was impressed by the Browns owner.
“It was charming. It was engaging,” Deion Sanders said. “It was cool. It was all right. He’s a good guy, and I like him.”
Hunter did not meet with reporters after his session on the Colorado pro day. Shedeur appeared relaxed during his media session. The word “appeared” isn’t necessary to describe the confidence he exudes.

“I think I did pretty good, to my expectations,” Shedeur Sanders said of his workout. “I know I did the best in college football right now, for sure.
“I feel like I’m the No. 1 quarterback, and that’s what I know. But at the end of the day, I’m not stuck on that because it’s about the situation, so whatever situation, whatever franchise believes in me, I’m excited to go. I’m comfortable in any situation.”
The Browns do not have an easy decision to make as the draft draws closer, assuming they are resigned to the Titans using the first pick on Ward.
Hunter caught 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Buffaloes in 2024. He made 35 tackles, broke up 11 passes and intercepted four while playing cornerback.
Sanders completed 74% of his passes (353 of 477) for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns last fall. He threw 10 interceptions and was sacked 42 times. He was sacked 52 times as a junior at Colorado. ...read more read less
