Enhancements planned for Mentor Civic Center Park and pool area
Apr 04, 2025
The first steps in the reimagining of Mentor’s most popular park as outlined by City Manager Kenneth J. Filipiak during his recent State of the City address have begun.
The Mentor Civic Center Park and pool are getting major enhancements.
According to the city, two new basketball courts and a 152-
space parking lot will occupy the space where the skatepark currently sits. The current basketball court will be converted into three additional pickleball courts as well.

Construction will begin this spring on a 42-foot-tall waterslide structure which will consist of three separate chutes. The project is expected to be completed sometime in the summer of 2025, as will the parking lot.
Demolition of the buildings in the Civic Center Pool area will begin right after swim season and will be replaced by a new series of inter-connected buildings with restrooms/locker area, concession stand, covered eating area, and more. Plans also include expansion of the pool pad and splash pad area.
During the State of the City address, Filipiak confirmed a $7 million investment is planned in remaking the entire Civic Center Pool footprint, including demolishing existing buildings and constructing series of connected buildings with notable improvements to the facility for an enhanced experience for members of the community.
The design of the new pool buildings will follow a themed architectural style to be carried through the Civic Center campus with the Civic Amphitheater serving as the inspirational centerpiece.
Mentor Director of Parks and Recreation Kenn Kaminski said the city is thrilled to bring these new amenities to the community, and can’t wait for residents to enjoy all the upgrades that are happening at Civic Center Park.
“These projects are a direct response to the needs of our community — providing more recreation options, better accessibility (especially during the events) and fun for all ages,” Kaminski said. “The new basketball courts, pickleball area, waterslides are a perfect addition. This creates more opportunities for families, athletes of all ages to stay active and healthy.”
According to Kaminski, the expansion of the pool complex buildings and the addition of waterslides are ensuring that residents have a great place for the summer and are replacing outdated buildings that were built in 1981.
The new parking lot is designed to improve convenience for everyone, making it easier to access upgraded facilities, enjoy some of the new features and provide parking for all of the events that are hosted at the Amphitheater.
“Our focus is always on enhancing the community experience for our residents, and these new projects will make a lasting impact for everyone who lives in Mentor,” Kaminski said. ...read more read less
