FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A popular regional Mexican band, that was supposed to perform at a festival in Fresno at the end of April, has had their visas revoked by the U.S. State Department after they allegedly glorified a "drug kingpin."
According to the Associated Press, the visa being rev
oked comes after the band projected the face of a drug cartel boss onto a large screen during a concert in Mexico over the weekend. Los Alegres del Barranco was scheduled to come to Fresno and headline "Spring Fest" at Chuckchansi Park on Saturday, April 26.
The event organizers announced on Instagram on Thursday that the band told them that they had not received their visas - meaning that the band will not be playing at "Spring Fest." Organizers say those who purchased tickets and would like a refund for the event can do so through the place they purchased the tickets.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who was U.S. ambassador to Mexico during the first Trump administration, said late Tuesday on X that the work and tourism visas of members of Los Alegres del Barranco had been revoked. In the post on X, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau posted he was pleased to announce the visa revocations of the members of the band, saying that the Trump Administration takes the responsibility over foreigners’ access to the country seriously.
A Mexican band, “Los Alegres del Barranco,” portrayed images glorifying drug kingpin “El Mencho” — head of the grotesquely violent CJNG cartel — at a recent concert in Mexico. I’m pleased to announce that the State Department has revoked the band members’ work and tourism visas. In the Trump Administration, we take seriously our responsibility over foreigners’ access to our country.

The controversy erupted over the weekend when the face of Nemesio Rubén “El Mencho” Oseguera layered over flames was projected behind the band, originally hailing from Sinaloa, during the concert.Oseguera is the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which has been connected to a ranch authorities say was used to train cartel recruits and possibly dispose of bodies in Jalisco, where searchers found human bone fragments, heaps of clothing, and shoes.
