SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The people behind the Katsuya restaurant chain by SBE and chef Katsuya Uechi are bringing a new iteration of their high-end culinary brand to San Diego.
Katsuya Ko, which will be located in the Westfield UTC shopping mall in University City, is expected to be a more laid
-back version of the upscale dining experience found at its other locations.

The menu for Katsuya Ko has yet to be unveiled, but it is expected to include the brand's signature sushi, sashimi and maki rolls.
According to the SBE website, "ko" translates to "child" in Japanese and is a core component of the new restaurant.
"Katsuya Ko's ethos is a vision of what Katusya's child would be -- a youthful, warm, and approachable version of Katsuya as customers know it now," the website reads.
The description on Westfield UTC's website adds that the restaurant will be "friendly, super fresh, and created to please all ages."
Currently, the Katsuya brand has locations in other U.S. cities like Los Angeles, CA, New York City, NY and Miami, FL, as well as in Nassau, The Bahamas and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Chef Katsuya's signature menu item featured at the other locations is the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice -- four pieces of grilled sushi rice topped with spicy tuna tartare and serrano pepper.
The restaurant's menu also includes a tomahawk short rib with yakiniku BBQ sauce and crispy onions, a dry-aged New York strip with truffle butter and wasabi ponzu sauce, and a chef combination of 15 pieces of premium sashimi.
Katsuya Ko will open at 4301 La Jolla Village Dr., Unit 2020, in San Diego. It was originally slated to open last fall, but signage as of Friday simply states it will open sometime this year. ...read more read less
