Rain and snow continues to move in across New Mexico. Much more precipitation is on the way tonight and tomorrow.
A low pressure system has moved into southeastern Arizona this afternoon. Overnight and throughout tomorrow this low pressure will make its way across southwestern New Mexico. This l
ow pressure is drawing up ample amounts of moisture across New Mexico. The high levels of moisture is present across eastern New Mexico. Especially, southeastern New Mexico.
Rain fall this afternoon is most prominent in southeastern New Mexico. Roswell has seen intermittent rain showers throughout the morning and early afternoon. Light snowfall is present across the higher elevations of northern and western New Mexico.
Overnight the precipitation is expected to intensify overnight. By early Saturday morning, heavy snowfall move move across northern, central, and eastern New Mexico. Forecast models are bringing the snow as far south as Roswell. Upwards of 8 inches of snow is possible in eastern New Mexico with higher totals expected on the mountain peaks. Additionally, overnight wind gusts in central and eastern New Mexico will pick up. These gusts could reach upwards of 55 mph and cause blowing snow. Road closures are possible along I-25, I-40, mountain passes, and US 285 near Roswell. The National Weather Service has issued several Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories. These alerts will go into effect at 9 p.m. Tonight April 4th and last through 6 p.m. Saturday April 5th.
Along with the snow and wind, much cooler temperatures will also be moving in over the night. A strong backdoor cold front will move across New Mexico tonight and early Saturday morning.
