Miners Red hockey advances to national quarterfinal
Apr 04, 2025
The Miners Red 2024-25 hockey season came to a halt Saturday in Irvine, California, at the USA Hockey National Championships, but not without the team making a little history first. Defeating two teams from Washington and Kentucky earlier in the week, Park City became the first Utah team during head
coach Mike Adamek’s 13-year tenure to advance out of group play to the elimination rounds. The Miners Red defeated the Sno-King Jr. Thunderbirds of Washington 8-3 last Wednesday, fell to the Steinbrenner Warriors of Florida 10-4 last Thursday and defeated the North Kentucky Norsemen 4-1 Friday. Park City fell 5-1 to the Morgantown Mohawks of West Virginia in their quarterfinal Saturday. The Miners Red made history Friday without Adamek on their bench, as the head coach was suspended for the game due to too many team penalties against Steinbrenner.Cody Wheelwright, Jackson Gready and Cooper Ford led the Miners Red with five, four and four points, respectively, throughout the tournament. Adamek also tabbed Will Bock (three points) as someone who helped lead the team on and off the ice.The Waterloo Warriors of Iowa ended up winning the championship Sunday. The Miners Red will now graduate 11 players. Those returning will split time in the offseason between spring prep sports and summer hockey leagues. Adamek and assistant Tom Gatta believe next year’s team has what it takes to win their third-straight state title and return to nationals looking for some vengeance.“I think we’re going to be good again,” said Adamek. “If we have the same start to the year that we did this year, I want to challenge our kids a little bit more.”The post Miners Red hockey advances to national quarterfinal appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
