SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Bryant University Bulldogs men’s basketball team officially introduced new head coach Jamion Christian Friday.
With the success Bryant had this winter, it led to new opportunity for Phil Martelli, Jr, who is now with VCU.
With today’s modern college basketball
world, it meant that Bryant Athletic Director Bill Smith had to act quickly to find the next head coach for the bulldogs, one who could continue the momentum Bryant has going.
This includes two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last four years.
The day he learned of Martelli’s new opportunity, the first text he got from a candidate was from Christian.
From there, the former Mount St. Mary’s, Siena and George Washington coach became the standout candidate.
Now the 42-year-old takes over the Bulldogs, hoping to further the recent success of the team.
