AG report: Rhode Island gun crimes down from 2023 to 2024

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha has released a report on the number of gun crimes in the Ocean State throughout 2024.
The report found the number gun crimes has gone down compared to 2023.
The AG’s office found 751 gun cases charged and disposed of last year, which is
82 fewer cases than reported in 2023.
265 cases from last year do remain pending.
Providence County also saw a decrease in cases, down from 370 to 358.
Some figures are on the rise, such as cases with multiple fire arms, cases involving higher capacity magazines and cases with ghost guns.
The attorney general’s office is taking pride in the figures, saying in the report, “Our effective prosecution, criminal justice investments, and proactive approach to combatting violent crime is making a significant difference.”
