(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) has named a new Fire Marshal following the retirement of Fire Marshal Brett Lacey.
Deputy Fire Marshal Kris Cooper has been named as the department's new Fire Marshal. Cooper was awarded the position after a nationwide search and
stepped into the role immediately following the retirement of Lacey.
"We are pleased to announce former Deputy Fire Marshal Kris Cooper has been selected to be the new Fire Marshal for the CSFD, filling this position upon the retirement of Brett Lacey. Fire Marshal Cooper has been with the department since 1997 and has been the Deputy Fire Marshal for almost 21 years,” said Fire Chief Randy Royal. “We are excited about his depth of experience, his knowledge base, but most importantly his passion for public safety, fire prevention and keeping the citizens and community we serve safe. He is a proven leader, and we are confident that he will keep our Division of the Fire Marshal moving forward with continued positive outcomes going into the future.”
Cooper is a Colorado Springs native and has been a part of CSFD since 1997. His career spans almost four decades as he began in the fire service in 1988. With CSFD, he has worked as a Fire Inspector, Plans Examiner, Unit Supervisor, and Deputy Fire Marshal.
Cooper graduated from the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer program and has received designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence as Fire Marshal. Cooper also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.
"Throughout his career, Fire Marshal Cooper has had a strong dedication to community riskreduction efforts with a goal of enhancing community safety through the reasonable application of fire codes and standards," CSFD said. "He has been involved with the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) on several curriculum validation committees for fire service training manuals and is currently serving as a technical committee member for National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1030 – Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner Professional Qualifications."
