LINCOLN, ND (KXNET) — A post on the Lincoln Police Department Facebook page is highlighting what is, essentially, calm support in a brief chaotic situation.
According to the post, an emergency call April 2 brought Lincoln Police Chief Matt Giddings to a nine-year-old boy in distress. He had und
ergone surgery recently and was apparently suffering complications from the operation. In the chaos and uncertainty of the situation, the boy's mother was trying to deal with the situation while managing her other older son who was also at home. She had called for emergency help. The situation was, in the mother's words a "complete nightmare when you are by yourself."
In almost no time, Giddings walked into the house, bring help and an air of calm under distress.
"Words can't describe how much I appreciated him coming in, immediately taking over and comforting [my son]," the mother wrote on the Facebook page. "I could turn my focus on my other child. I honestly believe [Giddings] staying calm lead to a better outcome."
Bismarck rural firefighters carried the nine-year-old to a waiting ambulance where he was quickly transported to the hospital.
The emergency event was over, but Giddings felt there was a little more to do.
When the boy returned home from the hospital, Giddings stopped by the next day to visit him and check on how the family was doing.
According to the Facebook post, Giddings, "was met with a bright smile and hug from [the boy], who was doing much better and showing signs of recovery. To everyone’s delight, he even agreed to take a photo with the chief and his little brother, a testament to his strength and resilience."
The boy's mother was particularly grateful for the emergency help and visit afterward.
"Thank you so much for coming over and making us smile after such a emotional event," she wrote. " Meant a lot to everyone, especially my boy."
