With the 9th pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints select... The Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft—our annual mock draft that is controlled by you, the reader—is ready to cl
ose out the top 10. Up next is the New Orleans Saints with the ninth overall pick.
Representing the Saints in our mock this year is commenter GM in Exile. It will be up to them to help turn around this New Orleans team that has been floundering in cap hell for the better part of a decade now. What’s the best way to pull out of cap trouble? Start hitting on your draft picks!
The Saints haven’t done a particularly great job of that lately, yet Mickey Loomis remains the team’s general manager. But not today, he isn’t. GM in Exile is running the war room this year.
Here’s a look at the board as it has fallen thus far (you can track the entire draft and grades for each pick here)
1. Titans: QB Cam Ward2. Browns: QB Shedeur Sanders3. Giants: WR/CB Travis Hunter4. Patriots: WR Tetairoa McMillan5. Jaguars: DT Mason Graham6. Raiders: EDGE Abdul Carter7. Jets: OT Armand Membou8. Panthers: TE Tyler Warren
With the ninth overall pick in the 2025 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Saints have selected...
Will Campbell, offensive tackle out of LSU.
Here’s GM in Exile with the explanation of the pick:
A friend of mine attended the Super Bowl. The day after the game we were talking about the prospect of moving the Super Bowl to President’s Day weekend so we could all get Monday off from work. He said, “Dude, let’s have the Super Bowl on Fat Tuesday. Tell the boss we gotta go to church on Ash Wednesday. Everyone wins!” I’ll settle for always playing the game in the Big Easy if only for the music.
The Saints have any number of roster issues. They just haven’t struck gold (pun intended) on defense recently. They could use a run stuffing DT. The secondary is poor (I was surprised to see CB Will Johnson was available and sorely tempted to grab him). A playmaking LB wouldn’t hurt but the Saints hold nine picks right now and should show patience for that. I have seen mocks where the Saints fill a skill position. I don’t think the Saints are close enough to a championship to use their first-round pick on a flyer. I tipped a certain OT last year. WHO DAT? Well, they didn’t take my guy but they picked a kid who could develop at RT. The real problem is the offensive line could not stay healthy last year.
These thoughts led me to select Will Campbell from LSU. A consensus top-ten prospect, he has a ton of game experience at a high level to go along with his NFL ready mindset. He’s a mountain out there at 6-foot-6, 325 pounds. While he may find himself playing all over the line, let’s not say that like it’s a bad thing. The Saints need consistency up front if they are going to be marching in during the 2025 campaign.
