DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Friday is day four of jury selection in the Karen Read murder retrial with 10 jurors now selected, and the defense has appealed to the nation’s top court. Five men and five women have been chosen for the retrial which will ultimately seat 16 jurors. Karen Read’s defen se has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in her case, arguing that her case falls under double jeopardy. In a filing Thursday night, Read’s lawyers asked the Supreme Court to consider a “unanimous decision by a jury following trial that the prosecution failed to prove a defendant guilty.” Read’s lawyers argued that jurors came forward after the first trial to say they agreed on acquittal for two charges, and were deadlocked on the third.
