Interim MSCS superintendent to earn $325K after board vote

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis-Shelby County Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Rodrick Richmond will be earning a $325,000 salary after the board voted on his contract.
The board met on Wednesday to discuss Richmond's contract.
Richmond would be serving an 18-month term that started on Jan. 21, w
hen Dr. Marie Feagins was terminated as MSCS Superintendent, and would end on July 21, 2026.
According to the contract, he will have full charge of the administration of the schools under the general supervision of the board, including education programs, administration, financial matters, procurement and contracting, personnel matters, and all other business and administrative matters concerning the school system, except as provided by law or school board policy.

He will also have to adhere to the policies promulgated by the board and will have full authority to enforce such policies.
The board will evaluate Richmond no later than Feb. 1 of each year by board policy.
The evaluation will include quantitative ratings, qualitative ratings, written explanations, and discussions of strengths, opportunities, and room for improvement in his professional development action plan.
The board also discussed the contract for Justin Bailey, who will serve as general counsel. He would earn a $275,000 salary.

The MSCS board's vote came down to 7-2 for Richmond. Stephanie Love, Joyce Coleman, Keith Williams, Amber Huett-Garcia, Natalie McKinney, Sable Otey, and Tamarques Porter voted yes. Michelle McKissack abstained. Towanna Murphy was not present.
