Presidio to close some trails to dogs for coyote pupping season

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Presidio in San Francisco announced this week that two trails at the expansive national park site will soon be closed to all dogs as coyote pupping season ramps up.
“Because the park welcomes millions of visitors and is a place where people live and work, the Presidio
Trust has an active coyote management program with the goal of reducing conflicts between coyotes, dogs, and people,” a news release stated.

Beginning on Monday, April 7, and running through early October, no leashed or unleashed dogs will be allowed on the Park Trail or the Bay Ridge Trail, Presidio Trust officials said. The Park Trail runs from Mountain Lake to the Presidio Promenade, while the Bay Ridge Trail stretches from Rob Hill Campground to the Presidio Golf Course.
The period of closure to dogs occurs at “a time when coyote parents are especially active and protective of their den site,” the Presidio wrote.

Concerning encounters, including people feeding coyotes or aggressive behavior, can be reported to the Presidio Work Order Service Desk at 415-561-4270 or coyote@presidiotrust.gov. ...read more read less
