JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Johnston Town Council voted Thursday to allow Mayor Joseph Polisena, Jr. to take land originally meant for an affordable housing development via eminent domain.
The mayor had originally announced in December that he was going to take the land on George Waterman Road th
rough eminent domain to construct a new public safety complex.
However, the owners of the land, the Santora family, sued the mayor and the town in March on the grounds that the town had not told them what the land would be used for.
Lawyers for Johnston and the realty company that owns the land agreed to dismiss the lawsuit and start the process over again.
