LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man accused of keying a Tesla parked in Lincoln Wednesday evening.
Benjamin Scheff, 29, of Pawtucket, has been charged with vandalism.
Police said the Tesla's owner spotted Scheff near his vehicle as was leaving a Smithfield Avenue store. Scheff
quickly walked away as the vehicle's owner approached.

The Tesla's owner inspected his vehicle and discovered a scratch above the rear passenger tire, which is where police said Scheff had been standing moments prior.

Surveillance footage from the victim's Tesla revealed that Scheff initially walked past the vehicle. He then abruptly turned around, approached the Tesla and made a swiping motion with his hand near where the owner found the scratch.
In a statement regarding the incident, the Lincoln Police Department said it "respects everyone's right to lawfully express their opinions, but vandalism is unacceptable."
There's been a clear uptick in vandals targeting Tesla vehicles since President Donald Trump took office and empowered Elon Musk to oversee a new Department of Government Efficiency. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has since labeled the increase in vandalism as "domestic terrorism."
