More rain as tornado cleanup continues in central Indiana
Apr 03, 2025
Storm clean-up continues after a busy Wednesday
Nearly 730 severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings were issued for Wednesday's severe weather outbreak. That's the highest since April 27, 2011 during the 2011 Super Outbreak when over 175 tornadoes occurred across several states. On that specific
day, 881 warnings were issued and that still stands as the single-day record. April 2, 2025 currently stands at #3 of all-time.
Of those, 298 were tornado warnings occurring right in the highest severe risk categories on the map. You can see that above. Multiple warnings occurred in Central Indiana, with 3 tornadoes in our region so far from Wednesday. Six total twisters occurred throughout the state, with more confirmations in the days ahead. We've already passed our yearly state average of 22 tornadoes throughout four severe weather events in March and April.
Rain lingers with heavy rain potential this weekend
As many central Indiana communities clean up following the storms, we'll have more rain to deal with. Showers are lingering tonight, with the severe threat staying south. A few storms Friday could get a bit noisy in the afternoon. Then, a heavy rain threat exists on Saturday around here. Those are just a few of the rain chances forecasted for next week. Areas well south of our region could see upward of six to eight inches of rain through early next week. That's prime for flooding, and I'm not going to rule out flooding chances in South Central Indiana as a possibility in the days ahead.
April is our fourth wettest month annually around here, and it's starting on a wet note. Heavy rain potential exists through Saturday, with many hometowns seeing one to two inches of rain through the weekend. Then, lingering showers are around as we cool off for a few days next week. Highs will only be in the 40s on Sunday and Tuesday, with sub-freezing lows possible Monday night/Tuesday morning. This is why we always say to hold off planting until Mother's Day!
