INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We’re coming off of an intense Wednesday night that featured widespread severe weather and a few tornadoes. Unfortunately, we’re not done with the active weather pattern.
A growing flood risk is on our doo
rstep going into this weekend with several more inches of rain expected.
Flood watches remain in effect until Sunday morning.
Thursday night: Showers with some heavy rainfall rates at times and rumbles of thunder are expected tonight. No severe weather is expected.
Lows will drop into the upper 40s.
Friday: We look to temporarily dry out through daybreak and into the lunch hour Friday. By mid to late afternoon, we’ll watch another wave of showers and prolonged heavy rain. There will be some rumbles of thunder as well.
We cannot rule out isolated strong to severe storms Friday afternoon and night. Wind and hail are the main concerns. Flooding though remains our biggest concern, and some flash flooding is possible.
Highs in the mid 60s.
Saturday: Rain with some extended heavy periods of it will persist through Saturday. This round of rain from Friday night through Saturday is the one we’re most concerned with. It is because this is where the majority of our forecasted rainfall the next few days will come from. We could have up to 3″-5″ alone from this round in central Indiana.
By Sunday morning, we look to have an additional 3″-6″ of rain altogether starting from late Thursday. Some areas in southern Indiana will likely deal with major river flooding and potentially considerable flash flooding. Central Indiana could have some moderate river flooding in association with the flash flood risk here.
This is one of the more serious flood threats we’ve had in several years. There are a couple of reasons why this is the case: recent heavy rains in the last couple of weeks and extended heavy rain being forecasted.
Highs in the low to mid 60s.
7-Day Forecast: Rain gradually winds down Sunday with cooler air returning to the forecast. Highs only make it into the upper 40s to low 50s Sunday. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the 40s through next Tuesday before we start warming back up next Wednesday.
