MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Law enforcement in Montgomery County conducted nearly 300 traffic stops along the Route 29 corridor on Wednesday as part of a multi-agency "move over" effort.
From the D.C. line to I-70 in Howard County, officers say speeding and other drivers failing to mo
ve over for stopped vehicles have been the main problems along the Route 29 corridor.
The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) worked with other agencies to conduct a move over and speed enforcement detail Wednesday, resulting in 271 traffic stops and seven commercial vehicle inspections.
Maryland's Move Over Law requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching any stopped vehicle displaying warning signals, including police cars, ambulances, fire trucks and disabled cars.
Violating the law can lead to fines or points on a driver's record.

During MCPD's operations, officers issued 90 move-over violations, 94 speed violations, a total of 237 warnings and more.
One officer even stopped and ticketed someone for driving 102 mph in a 60 mph zone.
Commercial vehicle inspectors observed and issued 28 violations and placed three vehicles out of service, as well as one driver.
MCPD Sgt. Jeremy Smalley said Wednesday's operation was to remind drivers about the law.
“We like to come out here every now and again to do maintenance to make sure people are still following the rules and making it safe for everybody on the road,” he said at the time. ...read more read less
