FORECAST: Cold front could bring some storms to the DMV late day
Apr 02, 2025
Winds will begin to pick up out of the south later this morning, allowing for improved visibility after this morning's fog. Still, we'll want to stay weather-aware this afternoon as the system remnants that swept across the Midwest and parts of the Ohio Valley yesterday move into our area.
It
's a mild start to the day, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s to lower 60s, which is more typical of our seasonal highs for this time of year. Temperatures will warm up quickly, with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has just updated the severe threat for today. The risk has been downgraded, becoming Marginal for strong to severe storms in our area. Some isolated thunderstorms are expected to bubble up later this afternoon and even later tonight, too, as the cold front dives in. We could see a few of these around 4 p.m. this afternoon around the DMV and another round of storms between 8 and 10 p.m., so don't be surprised if you hear thunder when you head to bed.
Tomorrow, the cold front stalls over the region, allowing showers to stick around through the morning commute. These should break apart as this front slips south of the area. Friday's highs will reach into the upper 60s to around 70.
The weekend features some rain chances and a warmup, too. On Saturday, showers will be confined to the morning hours, but the clouds will stick around. Highs will be in the mid-70s. Sunday will be slightly warmer, with rain and thunderstorm chances holding off until later in the afternoon ahead of a front to our west.
This front clears the region for Monday, with some lingering spotty showers possible. Monday will be seasonably cool, with highs in the lower 60s.
