Brighton will announce $1M settlement with energy provider

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Town of Brighton will announce that a settlement was reached in the class action lawsuit against Icon/Source Energy.
News 8 obtained court documents, which say that Icon/Source Energy will pay the town over $1 million. The company must make this payment within 21 da
ys.
The Town of Brighton posted on Tuesday that certain residents may be entitled to a payment from the class-action settlement. You would need to have been enrolled in the Community Choice Aggregation Program between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2022.
The town first announced the lawsuit on December 22, accusing Source Power of breach of contract. The company allegedly stopped providing power to Brighton residents, forcing them to switch to RG&E and pay higher prices.
Prior to that, Source Power partnered with RG&E but ended the partnership due to a billing issue.
